Stony Brook TV Writing Students Win Austin Film Festival
Second Year student Cynthia He and alum Anna Zabel earned first prizes at this year’s Austin Film Festival (AFF), one of the most prestigious events celebrating screenwriting and storytelling in film and television.

To kick off the fall 2025 TV Writing Guest Series, Stony Brook welcomed Sofya Levitzky-Weltz, Writer for FX’s The Bear and Producer/Writer for Hulu’s The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox.
This Fall in Film at SBU
Fall is a great time of year in New York City. The NYC Food and Wine Festival. Apple picking. And even New York’s version of Oktoberfest. But for the new incoming class at Stony Brook’s MFA in Film program, it means their first semester is underway.
Fall Screening
In collaboration with Killer Films, Stony Brook University hosted its annual Fall Screening at Film at Lincoln Center on October 14, 2025. Twelve students from the Class of 2027 and seven students from the Class of 2026 showcased films they created during the previous academic year.
Thesis Students
Last week, Lina Sarrello - also known as Lina Sarrapochiello at school - has just screened the first rough cut of her thesis feature film - “All of My Dreams” at Stony Brook Manhattan.
